International women’s day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year. It was first observed during international women’s year in 1975. It is the celebration of progress made towards achieving gender equality and a day to stand together in unity for further achieving the same. The theme for the year 2021 is “choose to challenge”. The theme is based on the premise that; from challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge and call out all the inequality and bias going on in this world against women.
Women are the pillar of this society, in fact, it won’t be wrong to say that they are the creators. Along with working hard towards achieving their dreams, women look after their homes and also care about the needs of all the family members as if there’s some superpower given to them by god. In older times, women used to be deprived of their right to work as they were imposed with the role of looking after their family, but what women proved with time is that they can fulfill both their duties perfectly.
Women today are excelling in every field. Be it India’s first female prime minister Indira Gandhi, first female president Pratibha Devisingh Patil, first female IPS officer Kiran Bedi, first female defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman or the first-ever Indian to win an Olympic silver in badminton PV Sindhu; all these women proved that they are better than so many men out there and can manage all their responsibilities beautifully.
What’s sad is that despite so many examples of women making our country proud, many women in India are still not allowed to go outside and work. Even if they are, there are so many restrictions imposed on them which make their life difficult. Even it’s often seen that in work places women are paid less or are thought to be less responsible or accountable than men despite the fact that they are the one who are managing the homes of all those men.
With a vision to make a difference, we at Star India Construction always support and assist women to grow further. In our organization women are there in important positions helping us run the organization smoothly. Be it our Director Usha Sinha, Senior General Manager Ekta Kumari Jindal or our HR Manager Sushma Krishna. We believe that change can come only if we have the courage of challenging stigmas in our society, be it unequal treatment of women or keeping them deprived of their basic rights in the name of tradition or something else.
Let us all stand in solidarity by raising our hands high and commit ourselves to the choose to challenge campaign. #WomenEmpowerment #ChooseToChallenge #IWD2021
